Just to be clear, the 12 percent on the right is the category you need to be in to sort out the healthcare system, and find and understand information about your health issues in order to manage them properly.
As in, I can Google rheumatoid arthritis, read articles written for laymen about it, understand enough to make decisions about my diet, activity, medication administration and other management of my care. That’s what only 12 percent of the population of the US can do.
Why? Because we don’t teach anyone what they need to know when they are in school, and then we talk to them in medical doublespeak once they’re adults. It’s like some kind of shitty joke. It makes me frustrated and that’s why even though I get irritated sometimes, I would rather spend an entire day explaining that urine does not come from your vagina than just walk away and shake my head.
It’s fucking important.
